We were delighted to have an unusual antique Art Nouveau buffet in our gallery, and we were even more delighted that it found such a great home!

Kevin and Candice in Summerville, SC, had been looking for years for the perfect piece to put in the hallway of their new home. Kevin reports that Candice is normally slow to decide on big purchases. He didn't expect to find anything when they stopped in our antique furniture store in Newberry. However, when Candice spotted the gorgeous French Art Nouveau buffet, she stopped in her tracks. Crafted around the late 19th century or early 20th century, this Art Nouveau sideboard could function as a display cabinet or buffet cabinet. A quality french buffet of this caliber is always a sight to behold.

It was the right size and the right color of walnut to match with their collection of Arts and Crafts furniture. It didn't take Candice very long at all to decide this was exactly the right piece. It took Kevin completely by surprise! Doesn't it look wonderful in their home?

Antique French Furniture Done Right

We don't see Art Nouveau buffets very often, as the style was only prominent from approximately 1890 to 1910 before the Art Deco style swept the scene. The Art Nouveau style of furniture is quite feminine and pretty. It features organic motifs, such as flowers, vines, leaves, or fruit. Additionally, it is especially known for dramatic curves and swirls. The focus was on craftsmanship as a reaction against growing industrialization and mass production. These rare pieces are especially beautiful. The patina of the walnut on this particular Art Nouveau buffet is just stunning.

Kevin and Candice also picked out this set of pretty vintage Louis XV French Country dining chairs for the dining room off the hallway. The vintage chairs date to 1930. The charming chairs are crafted in oak wood and they are upholstered in yellow gold velveteen. The Louis XV chairs boast a delicately shaped back with sweet and subtle carving. They also feature French cabriole legs.

French Rococo Chandelier

Finally, Kevin and Candice chose a dramatic vintage French Rococo chandelier to light up the entryway. The 10-light metal chandelier dates to around 1950 and it is lavishly adorned with the decorative embellishments and curvy bracket arms that you’d expect from the Rococo style. What a pretty sight it will all make when the chandelier is hung!

Thank you Kevin and Candice for sending the photos of the antique buffet. We hope it brings you many years of joy!
