Scarborough House Beds

This is great example of one of our popular Scarborough House beds. The canopy bed is crafted in crotch mahogany with regal brass accents. Scarborough House Fine Furniture creates antique-inspired pieces that are hand-crafted using age-old techniques. The company even makes its own brass hardware to ensure high quality and perfect styling. Scarborough House was founded by an Englishman who was a fine furniture designer and maker. The attention to detail is just as amazing as you’d expect from such a heritage!

Scarborough House Four Poster Bed SH-255Scarborough House is well known for its wood veneers that make each item of furniture a center piece in a room. The fine crotch mahogany on this king size four poster bed shows the level of craftsmanship.  I bet that this bed will become a family heirloom.

Quality Interior Design for Any Bedroom Layout

This is the other Scarborough House king size bed that our customers are loving right now. You can see why. The silhouette is so chic that it will work in any style of bedroom decor, and the handsome crotch mahogany adds a sense of substance and luxury. Scarborough House Chest of Drawers SH-194 We have a large selection of Scarborough House chests of drawers, but this beauty is winning a lot of hearts lately! Crafted in crotch mahogany with brass handles, the chest of drawers is a lovely match for the king beds. The traditional techniques used by the high-quality furniture makers means that the drawers are constructed with good old-fashioned dovetail joinery.  I am curious about how each customer will dress the top of the chest of drawers. A small mirror or vase of flowers on top would be charming. Some small decorative boxes or silver-framed photos would look good too.

Bedside Tables

From small bedroom to master bedroom, bedside tables are important! They’re a great way organize your home, providing much needed storage space, especially for small rooms. They make your room feel larger, giving you more space to explore different decorating ideas.

Scarborough House Drum Table SH-51As a finishing touch, this Scarborough House drum table is also selling well — for bedrooms, living rooms, entry ways, and really anywhere that you want an exquisite accent table. We have a wide choice of Scarborough House tables to browse, all of them as attractive as this delightful 26-inch-wide round drum table crafted in crotch mahogany with a leather top and opulent brass accents.

English Castle Hotels

Stay at Hever Castle in England

If you love the romance of English history, lore and legends, you’ll be pleased to know that you can experience the romance for yourself by staying in an English castle! I blogged before about how to take a castle vacation at Château de Bagnols in the Beaujolais valley and in other French castle hotels. But today we’re hopping across the Channel to sneak a peek at the English castles that could tempt us to put on our wimples and go for a visit.

Hever Castle, Kent

Stay at Hever Castle in England

Hever Castle is famous for being the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, the second of King Henry VIII’s six wives. Henry was never going to win “Husband of the Year” and poor Anne came to a very unfortunate end. But first she made her mark on history by giving birth to a little girl destined to be the future Queen Elizabeth I.
This impressive double-moated medieval castle was built in 1270. It’s thanks though to the American William Waldorf Astor that the castle is so well restored today. He gave the castle a facelift and to keep it authentic his workmen use the same materials and tools that the Tudors used!

Hever Castle Inner Hall

You can stay at Hever Castle or just visit to enjoy spaces like this amazing Inner Hall with walnut panels and columns. During the Tudor years it was the Great Kitchen, cooking up feasts for the household after their hunting parties, no doubt.

Augill Castle, Cumbria

Augill Castle CumbriaIf you’re visiting the Lake District or the Yorkshire Dales in the north of England, you’ll find Augill Castle a convenient and mighty impressive place to stay! It’s been named English B&B of the year and it offers Gothic towers and turrets, antique furnishings and 20 acres of grounds with a tree house!

Augill Castle room Queen Victoria

Built in 1841 as a country residence for a Victorian gentleman, Augill Castle has a library, its own cinema, and 15 guest rooms for travelers to stay in.

This is the Pendragon room and it is said that Queen Victoria stayed in this room on her way to her Scottish country castle of Balmoral.

In addition to that stunning four poster bed, the room has a carved oak fireplace and arched leaded windows. The bathroom boasts stained glass windows and a Victorian cast iron claw footed bath.

Amberley Castle, West Sussex

Amberley Castle

Visitors should be safe in this 900-year-old castle… it’s surrounded by a 60-foot-high castle wall and a twin-tower gatehouse with a portcullis that is closed each night! During the 14th century the castle was the Bishop of Chichester’s Summer Palace. Now it’s a hotel including a restaurant with suits of armor and a 12th century barrel-vaulted ceiling.

Amberley Castle hotel room

Bedroom decor includes antique furnishings, original fireplaces, and four poster beds – one room even has access to a tower! Peacocks roam the 12 acres of grounds with 1920’s topiary and statues, and you can play tennis, old-fashioned English croquet, or golf on the 18-hole putting green.  It’s easy to stay at Amberley Castle if you are traveling though London as it’s less than 60 miles from the city. It’s also near the seaside town of Brighton which is well known for its antique shops!

If you’ve ever stayed in an English castle – or a castle in France or anywhere at all – we’d love to hear from you!

Romantic Bedroom Decor

Vintage Valentine Card

Vintage Valentine CardWith Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I’m inspired to think about romantic bedroom decor.  Of course, romance is in the eye of the beholder. If you’ve just fallen in love then anywhere is romantic… The same goes if you are as happily married as Greg and I are. We celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary this year and we are just as in love as ever. I am still thinking up a romantic surprise for him for Valentine’s Day. (Shh! Don’t tell him!) However, it’s sometimes a challenge to find a quiet space to snuggle up with your sweetheart when you’ve got 8 cats and dogs eager to come snuggle up with you, like Greg and I do. And you know… I wouldn’t change a thing!

Romance Through Home Decor

I enjoyed looking at the romantic bedroom decor in these photos, and I hope you get some ideas too.

Romantic Bedroom Decor White ROom This beautiful white bedroom is softly seductive and proves that you don’t have to paint a room pink to create a romantic atmosphere! The gauzy draped chairs and pure light set the tone, and a fabulous vintage chandelier adds a sultry and inviting touch. The feather boa in the cat basket on the floor gives me a chuckle. Our adorably mischievous cat Lenny would have a fine time playing with that!

A Romantic Color Palette

In general, romantic bedroom decor tends to rely on pale or pastel tones – sweet lavender, delicate blue, warm peach, and yes, the very feminine pink! Layering different shades of the same color will give more depth and sophistication to the boudoir. Flowing window treatments and gently distressed furniture add to the sense of comfort.

Romantic bedroom decor with toile de jouy
By New York Interior Designers & Decorators Anthony Baratta LLC

A canopy or four-poster bed always sparks up the romance factor. (We have some gorgeous traditional beds in the gallery, including some by Ambella Home and Jonathan Charles.) Toile de Jouy is a classic choice if you want pattern in your wallpaper or bed linens but prefer to avoid florals. It immediately adds a French accent to your romantic bedroom decor. You don’t have to go as all-out toile as the photo above though.  I think it is delightful but if you prefer a lighter touch…

Romantic Bedroom Decor pink toile This French Country bedroom limits the pretty red toile fabric to the bed linens and breezy drapes, with a few matching plates as wall decorations.

Romantic bedroom decor with mural

A fairy-tale lace bed canopy and soft peachy walls provide the allure in this romantic bedroom decor. The curvy lines of the furniture add to the sensuous mood. Notice the lovely mural too. A cute white pup is optional!
Cherub light
Chalkware Guardian Angel
Cherubs and angels add a sweet note to romantic bedroom decor. The Italian cherub chandelier on the left in our gallery is made from an antique wooden cherub serenading you with a lute. The vintage gilded chalkware angel above dates to around 1950 and as it hails from France, it surely knows the language of love!

Jonathan Charles Furniture

If you literally want to add hearts to your bedroom, we rather like the range of new Jonathan Charles heart chairs in the gallery. Crafted in walnut and leather, the chairs add a romantic note without being too fussy. I think this green leather chair would look especially wonderful before a dressing table or vanity.
