Vintage Clock Makes Prestigious DC Building Tick

We were thrilled when the acclaimed Washington, DC interior designer Paul Corrie of Paul Corrie Interiors bought a beautiful vintage Louis XV Rococo style shelf clock from EuroLuxAntiques.com. We were even more thrilled when Paul featured it in his fabulous design for the entry and lobby spaces of The Dresden, one of Washington’s most prestigious condominium addresses.

This is the piece Paul chose from our selection of vintage clocks.  You can see how ornate it is. The tortoiseshell and brass-colored metal case is decorated with sweet little birds and a woman’s face, and and even the pendulum boasts a gorgeous starburst design. Whether they feature arabic or roman numerals, collectible clocks like this can be a perfect fit for your home decor. A piece like this could also be a great fit as a desk clock, keeping track of time as you work. A timepiece with an antique or vintage style clock face can bring an extra touch of luxury to your home.

The clock dates to the 1950s and as the movement is by the famous German manufacturer Hermle, it still works as good as new with its vintage design. It sounds a pretty double strike too, to help everyone at The Dresden keep their appointments on time!

Fast forward and here’s the room Paul designed with the clock – you can see it to the left of the fireplace. I love how this classic and simple space is made so striking (forgive my pun) by the vintage and also the fireplace screen, matching the existing wall decor. Just a few special details add a sense of luxury. The tile work is lovely too, and Paul creates yet more visual interest by setting the mirror to one side above the fireplace, breaking up the symmetry. It’s almost like having a mini Big Ben in your home. He’s got a great eye!

Here’s another shot of the same room at The Dresden, although you can’t see the vintage clock from this angle. The layering of cool, neutral tones gives the room an air of elegant distinction, increasing the sense of space and light. The Toile de Jouy fabric on the armchair is delightful, adding a dash of pattern in the otherwise solid and plain colored upholstery. It draws the eye, without making the room too busy.

Isn’t this an inviting space? Paul makes the setting welcoming with the plumped-up cushions, vases of flowers, and a casual pile of books just waiting for someone to leaf through them. I can picture myself curling up here with a magazine and a cup of tea by this mantel clock! I’d probably find myself reading about Paul Corrie, as his name often crops up in interior design magazines including Traditional Home, Metropolitan Home, and Home & Design.

Although Paul tends towards more contemporary design, he’s also influenced by the classic and very gracious homes in the nation’s capital. He’s been quoted as saying “I always like to pull in simple, timeless furnishings with clean lines” and we can see that in these photos. Who wouldn’t feel at home in these spaces he creates? Paul has recently been selected as the designer for the new DC Center for the LGBT community – yet another feather to add to his cap. Home & Design Magazine called Paul “a rising star” back in 2008, and it looks like his star has well and truly risen!

Things We Love Right Now – April 2013

A home decor tip for those beautiful magnolias! Here in South Carolina, spring has sprung! The Japanese magnolias and Bradford pear trees are full of blooms and the dogwoods and azealas will pop soon too. If you have any kind of magnolia growing in your garden, one single bloom (like this one!) can decorate a home beautifully. Set it to float in an attractive bowl filled with water and place it as a centerpiece on the dining table. Your guests are sure to be enchanted. This would work with other large flowers or blossoms too.

We’re all enjoying the beautiful spring weather and looking forward to getting outdoors more!

John and Kathy EuroLuxAntiquesJohn and Kathy are excited about some of their discoveries in their genealogical searches. They’ve taken advantage of the sunny days to explore cemeteries around Spartanburg and Pacolet where Kathy has found quite a few of her ancestors buried. She recently learned that her grandmother’s great-great-grandfather and her grandfather’s great-great-great-grandfather are one and the same person! (Apparently some first cousins got married back around the 1700s!)

A vintage beer stein makes any drink taste cool! Both Therese and Greg are super-excited that the major league baseball season has just begun! Therese says that baseball is the best sport ever and she’ll be cheering on the Braves. Greg is very excited about his fantasy league baseball team. Last year he had a lot of injuries on his team but he’s got a new roster for the 2013 season. He has high hopes for two young players: Oscar Taveras, an outfielder with the St. Louis Cardinals, and Salvador Perez, a catcher with the Kansas City Royals.

Greg is really getting into his sports manager role, and he likes the idea of quaffing from this handsome vintage beer stein while cheering his team to triumph. I guess he could drown his sorrows with it too, if the season doesn’t go as well as he hopes!

EuroLuxAntiques FamilyI am looking forward to taking a trip with my mom to Hobe Sound, Florida, to visit my nieces and my best friend from college. My nieces are 10 and 11 this year – aren’t they adorable? I’m a proud aunt! We’ve booked a cabin in a state park and will go horseback riding, boating, and to the beach – the weather should be awesome. Of course, that means pulling out all my summer leisure gear. If your garage is packed to the rafters with sports and leisure equipment, these professional organizer tips on 7 steps to organize your garage might help!

Center Ossipee, NH

For me, one of the best parts of my job at EuroLuxHome.com is interacting with interesting people from all around the world. Many of our customers have historical homes and are looking for antique furniture or vintage chandeliers in order to honor the spirit of their homes.

They desire to immerse themselves in a rich, historical environment for a variety of reasons – for the love of history, for an appreciation of the quality of antique and vintage things, for the desire to re-use and re-purpose objects that carry a sense of history with them.

Whether it is a conscious turning away from our “disposable” technology-driven society for our clients, or rather a whole-hearted embracement of their dreams and passions, it is very rewarding to me to be able to help a beautiful antique piece find a new home – a new family to whom to belong, where ‘he or she’ will be treasured for years to come.

Mary and Adam S. in Center Ossipee, New Hampshire, have created a truly remarkable 18th century home, filled with personally meaningful treasures, through tireless persistence, diligent hard work, and a beautiful love story at the heart of their tale.

You can read all the wonderful details and follow Mary’s exceptional blog, An Historical Lady, which describes the charming and interesting life Mary and Adam lead. If you read just one post, read this inspirational one.

We are thrilled that EuroLuxAntiques.com helped Mary and Adam find the perfect vintage chandelier in the Double Hapsburg style for their dining room above. And as I know you are wondering what the rest of their amazing home looks like, I will share a few photos, with Mary’s permission.

Notice the incredible hand-crafted windows in 17th century style with wavy glass and some panes of pale green glass above and the soapstone countertops and sink below, which were designed by Mary and Adam. Rather than lamps, they have electrified antique lanterns throughout their home to create a warm and authentic atmosphere.

Mary and Adam recently added a stunning Antique English Court Cupboard to their living room that dates to 1689 and is covered head to toe in abundant, heavy carvings. I really love this piece!

Be sure to notice the treen hanging candle holder and authentic beeswax tapers in the photo above, which can be purchased on Mary’s website, The Country Lady Antiques.

If you’re intrigued and would like to see more photos, Tour the 1785 Mill House. As you can tell, I greatly admire Mary and Adam and wish them much happiness and success in their endeavors. I’ll leave you with one last photo of their adorable yorkies! Thanks for stopping by the EuroLux Antiques blog! Next up, I’ve decided to share photos of our own renovation project – a 1920s bungalow.

Charleston, SC

Back in January, Greg and I delivered a beautiful Antique French Gothic Buffet to the home of Jami and Bill F. on James Island near Charleston, South Carolina. The warm patina of the walnut and the intricate, Gothic style carvings make this Antique Buffet a truly special and unique piece. Jami’s very friendly Doberman pinscher posed in front and smiled for the camera.

We decided to stay overnight and spend the next day strolling around Charleston soaking up the ambiance. If you’ve never been to the Holy City as her residents affectionately call her, you must go – Charleston is a bucket-list type of place to visit.

After wandering the charming streets, admiring the architecture and the old trees, we eventually ended up sitting on a bench on the Battery overlooking the harbor. The ocean breeze gently rustled the palm fronds above us as the sun kissed our cheeks and we enjoyed an exceptionally beautiful 75 degree day at the end of January. What a great way to relax.

Bridgeton, NJ

Greg and I delivered a beautiful Renaissance Buffet in Bridgeton, New Jersey while we were up north vising family during the Christmas holidays. When we pulled up in front of George F.’s Victorian home, we were amazed to see the fantastic restoration and colorful paint job. George mentioned that he has been restoring this Victorian home, which dates to 1890, for several years and says he is almost finished. Two thumbs up from EuroLux Antiques for a job well done!

George purchased an elegant Antique French Renaissance Henry II Style Buffet dating to 1920 in oak with a rich patina and pretty carved flowers.

George placed the Antique Renaissance Buffet in the dining room, which was just beginning to be decorated for the holidays when we arrived. The Antique Buffet perfectly matched an amazing stained glass window in the dining room that is original to the home.

I was quite impressed with the reproduction patterned wallpaper on the walls and ceiling, which gave a very good impression of how the home may have been decorated at the turn of the century. Of course, the crystal chandelier was a wonderful finishing touch in this beautiful dining room.

As we were leaving, George and a few helpers were busy decorating for the holidays as his home would soon be featured on the upcoming 2011 Historic Bridgeton Christmas Open House Tour in Cumberland County, New Jersey.

If you are searching for a unique buffet or sideboard to add to your dining room, or any space in your house that could use a piece of high-quality antique furniture, look no further than EuroLuxAntiques.com.

Spartanburg, SC

It was a gorgeous day when we pulled into Susan B.’s driveway in Spartanburg, SC.  Susan has been a great client for years now, and we’re always happy to bring another piece to her beautiful home.

Susan picked this very high-quality Antique French Renaissance Hunting Buffet (circa 1880) because it has a wolf or hunting dog at the top that reminded her of her handsome pair of German Shepherds.  I think it really looks wonderful in her living room next to the large oil painting of Venice, Italy.

In the far corner of the living room near the large window and French doors is the gorgeous Antique Welsh Moonroller Grandfather Clock (circa 1810) that we delivered on an earlier trip.  Susan loves its chime and enjoys singing along with the bong – bong – bong!

Susan placed a charming Vintage French Country Secretary Desk (circa 1950) near the front door at the bottom of the stairs as a useful place to keep keys and mail.  This pretty piece greets visitors as they come through the door and adds warmth to Susan’s lovely home.

Downstairs in the large finished basement that serves as a family room, Susan added two Vintage Flemish Renaissance Cabinets (circa 1930s) for additional storage.  The large one replaced a fish tank and will give Susan a place to store personal items.  The small one by the back door is perfect for goggles and sunscreen so the kids can grab them on the way out to the pool in the back yard!  My photo didn’t turn out, but Susan also has a pretty Vintage French Country Sideboard (circa 1950) in the family room that is used to store towels for the pool.

Susan has quite a few more pieces from EuroLux Antiques in the upstairs hall and bedrooms, but those will have to wait for another blog post.  A big shout-out of thanks to Susan B. for her continued patronage – we appreciate you!

Thanks for stopping by the EuroLux Antiques blog and Best Wishes for 2012!

EuroLux Antiques in a TV Commercial!

A big shout out and huge THANKS to Joe Trainor, owner of Stokes-Trainor GM Superstore, who featured EuroLux Antiques and Downtown Newberry in his latest TV commercial for pre-owned vehicles.

Joe has been President of our Newberry Chamber of Commerce and continues to go the extra mile to support Newberry. Our local businesses here on Main Street greatly appreciate everything that Joe does to bring folks to town and focus the spotlight on Newberry.

Greg and I can personally attest to not only the great deal you’ll find at Stokes-Trainor Chevrolet, but also the integrity, sincerity, and high-level of customer service you’ll receive. Both of our EuroLux Antiques business trucks were purchased there and our family members have purchased more than a dozen cars from Stokes-Trainor GM Superstore over the years. In fact, we wouldn’t go anywhere else to purchase our next vehicle and we continue to use their service department, even after our warranties have expired.

Thanks for being such a great guy, Joe Trainor!
