When you work all day surrounded by beautiful antique furniture like I do, you know all about timeless home decor! I am always admiring these classic pieces that just look as gorgeous in a house today as they did in the era they were crafted. Actually, they often look better. Age gives them even more character to lend a unique touch to a living room, dining room, or bedroom. Now that fall is well and truly here, we're looking forward to curling up on the couch with the cats and reading some of these new books about timeless home style.

Alidad: The Timeless Home

timeless home, Bookshelf: Timeless Home StyleI'm especially looking forward to this book as the cover is so inviting and cozy. It's a joy to see a row of blue and white Delft vases or ginger jars lined up in the nooks. (At the top of the cover.) Greg and I are big fans of Delftware, and we have many pieces of antique Delft pottery for sale in the gallery. The London interior designer Alidad is well-known for combining contemporary and antique furniture and textiles to create a comfortable but elegant mood. The book shows all kind of projects by the designer, from beach homes to Paris apartments. His tasteful use of color is just lovely - warm and rich without being too overwhelming. Perfect for this time of year!

Timeless Style

timeless home, Bookshelf: Timeless Home StyleTake a shake of Southern charm, add a pinch of European chic! Inspirations for the rooms in this book draw from many sources, which suits our taste for eclectic and timeless home decor. The author, Atlanta-based interior designer Suzanne Kasler, has been named one of the top 100 designers by House Beautiful magazine. She likes mixing antique furniture with modern decor, as we know many of our customers do. The blend of styles and eras adds layers of visual interest to a home. Although the book cover looks a little stark to my eye, inside there are some truly delightful classic rooms with a more traditional feel. As Kasler says: "Age has its advantage when it comes to furniture."

An Invitation to Chateau du Grand-Lucé

timeless home, Bookshelf: Timeless Home StyleIf you're looking for timeless home decor inspiration, what could be more timeless than a French castle? Interior designer Timothy Corrigan restored this 18th century Loire Valley mansion and wrote a book about it. The subtitle is Decorating a Great French Country House. Indeed it is great and it's superbly decorated! Corrigan brings in a little Californian comfort too. If you love traveling to France as much as we do on our antiques buying trips, you might like to know that families or wedding parties can stay at Chateau du Grand-Lucé by the week. Or for more ideas for a legendary European vacation, take a look at my posts on French castle hotels and historic London hotels.[related_products is_auto_added="1"]
